"Take my tempachure!"

Just thought I'd share my most favorite purchase as of late:

Now, I know out here in the woods, we're a little behind the rest of the world, but I thought I might share this little bit of genius with my "Momma" friends, in case you were still struggling with a feverish child to get an accurate temp reading. This particular little jewel is the Vicks Forehead Thermometer, and it's THE BOMB!!

After fighting (unsuccessfully) with my sick child for the past few days this week, I went in search of a better thermometer to take her "tempachure". I was NOT going to Wal-Mart, so we popped into Walgreens and this is what they had. As far as I'm concerned, it is SO worth the $50 to not have to restrain my child and hold her arms down. She actually likes taking her "tempachure" now!!

Good thing, too, since we've been doing that a lot lately. We'll be heading to the doctor tomorrow to see if we can't get this thing knocked out. Today has been another awful day, and to be quite honest, Momma's nerves are shot. My baby's got to get better!

One Sick Little Ladybug...

It has been a rough week for my ladybug!

First, she crashes and burns off the porch on her tricycle on Monday.

Then, she wakes up with fever and vomiting Tuesday morning.

Yesterday wasn't much better, and last night was pretty horrible...

She's never kept a fever for this long, and you can tell she just feels awful.

I called the clinic first thing this morning to see if I needed to bring her in, but they ended up calling in something. Ironically, this morning when I talked to the nurse, her nose was running clear. Of course this afternoon, after we've already gotten the meds, it changes colors. Figures.

She didn't have much of a fever this morning, thank goodness, but it seems to be steadily climbing this afternoon. It just hasn't been a good day.

All she wants is to be held and loved on, which is fine by me, but I just wish that would make her well! Poor baby has just been miserable all week, and I can tell she wants to feel better, but it's just not happening yet.

On a separate note, since I'm sure everyone's so curious, the zebra chickens have been laying lots of eggs for us lately! We got three today, and that's pretty good considering how young they are! They're laying everyday, which is good, and hopefully they'll keep up the good work!

Sadly, we've only got 8 biddies left. We've lost three, and we're not too sure why. Hopefully the rest of the sisters will hang in there and make it through!

Please pray for my girl, that she will feel better and be able to rest well tonight.

What's in Momma's Belly??

Well, first of all, everything looks GREAT!!

We had a good, if long, doctor visit today, and Baby Slaydon was very cooperative in showing us its 2000 parts!! Everything is in the right place, and I'm measuring exactly what I'm "supposed" to be at this point in my pregnancy!

I tried to upload the video of Abigail saying what was in Momma's belly, but for some reason it wouldn't load, so I guess you'll just have to wait til I can get it figured out...

It's a(nother) GIRL!!!

Battle Scars!

Today was quite an interesting day here at the farm!

After sleeping in a little and snuggling with my girl (my favorite thing), we headed out to check on the biddies, only to find that we'd lost one. :( Thankfully, Abigail didn't seem to notice.

Abigail was so excited when Mrs. Teri, Carson, and Carter came to see her biddies and zebra chickens!! She has been asking everybody she sees to come see her chickens, but hardly anyone has taken her up on it. She was pretty proud to show them off!

The kiddos played outside for awhile and Abigail got to seesaw with Carter (usually she has to do it by herself, which is no fun)! She was able to dodge a seesaw to the face at one point, and I thought we were home free for accidents today...

Boy, was I wrong.

A few minutes later, the kiddos were playing on the porch as Teri and I were visiting in the front yard. Carter asked if Abigail could ride her bike down the stairs, to which his mother and I replied, "No!"

Not 5 seconds later, there she went. All I saw were pigtails flying as the Radio Flyer went airborne down the steps!! I'm pretty sure my heart stopped.

Her sweet face hit first, and then the tricycle landed on her.

My poor baby!!

After a cold washcloth, some ice water, and a little TLC, she was good to go again!

I'm pretty sure she busted both lips, but that was the worst of it.

I don't think there's any permanent damage to that pretty face!

I know this is only the beginning, but I don't know if my heart can stand anything worse...

Whatta Weekend!!

We've had a wonderful weekend here at the Slaydon homestead, especially compared to the tragedy and heartbreak of last weekend! All 11 of our biddies are looking great and just eating and pooping their little hearts out! Abigail finally got to hold one today, and she was just lovin' and huggin' on that poor thing! Thank goodness it didn't poop on her, or we'd never hear the end of that! I don't even want to think of what the biddie poops like...;)

This afternoon was just beautiful, so we opened up the house to let some fresh air in!

Miss Priss took a good nap (while Momma and Daddy tended to the biddies), and she was rarin' to go when she did wake up! We played outside on the swing and in the playhouse, rode the 4-wheeler (sorry, Aunt Deb!), and collected 2 eggs from the zebra chickens!

It was a nice, relaxing afternoon in preparation for what will likely be a very busy and eventful week! We go on Tuesday for our next appointment, and it looks like we'll be finding out just what kind of Baby Slaydon we'll be getting--if he or she cooperates, that is! As long as I can see the little nugget and hear that heartbeat, I'll be just fine! That's all that I need to know!!
